PRINCETON — The Bureau County Historical Society will host a 150th anniversary celebration of the Red Covered Bridge on Labor Day (Monday).
The public is invited to attend a short program at the bridge beginning at 11:30 a.m., followed by a picnic lunch at noon. Board members will be grilling hot dogs and other society members are providing lemonade, chips and cupcakes. Donations will be gratefully accepted.
The program will include a history of the Red Covered Bridge, along with remarks by Steve Gunning. Steve’s father, Judge Hobart Gunning, was the speaker at the 100th anniversary celebration in 1963. Mayor Keith Cain will also participate on behalf of the city of Princeton. Kathy O’Malley will also address event-goers.
Persons attending are encouraged to bring a lawn chair for seating.
