Dorothy 'Grandma' Spencer

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. — Grandma went to be with her Heavenly Father on Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2013, with family by her side. She was a resident of Transitional Health Services in Kannapolis, N.C., and was formerly of Wyanet and North Ft. Myers, Fla.

She was born Jan. 3, 1919, in Wyoming, Ill., to the late Walter Forth and Carrie Peck Forth. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, George Christiansen; her second husband, Dalton Spencer; one son, Gregory Christiansen; one stepson, Roger Christiansen; one daughter-in-law, Linda Christiansen; one sister, Eleanor Davis; and three brothers, Bill, Earl and Ralph Forth.

Grandma is survived by her son, Doug Christiansen, and wife Patti of Concord, N.C.; one granddaughter, Natalee Skeris, and husband Pete of Concord and their children, Kaylee, Tyler, Jaiden and Addyson; and one grandson, Neil Christiansen, and wife Tracy of North Ft. Myers, Fla., and their children, Nathan and Carlee. She is also survived by two brothers, Melvin and Gene Forth.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Transitional Health Services for the love and kindness shown to Grandma over the past four years. She dearly loved each of you as one of her very own. God bless you and thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

She was a wonderful lady and will be truly missed! We can still hear Grandma singing … "I’ll fly away, oh glory, I’ll fly away … when I die, hallelujah by and by, I’ll fly away!" Godspeed, Grandma … you’ve got your wings — now fly, fly away!

There will be a private memorial service at a later date in Sanibel Island, Fla.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1901 Brunswick Avenue, Suite 100, Charlotte, NC 28207.

The Wilkinson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Condolences may be sent to www.wilkinsonfuneralhome.com.
