SVE Board discusses traffic signal

SPRING VALLEY — Spring Valley city representatives and Spring Valley Elementary school board members discussed the placement of a traffic signal at Wednesday’s board meeting.

“It was nice to be included in these discussions,” Superintendent Jim Hermes said.

The city has applied for a Safe Routes For Schools grant and is in the process of deciding where to place a traffic signal that would make it safest for students. There have been several streets named as possibilities. Recently, Mayor Walt Marini said it will be at least two years before any work will be done.

At Wednesday’s meeting, the school board also had the following discussion items:

• Learned the precast exterior concrete walls are about 50 percent up and construction continues on the new addition. There will be a special board meeting at 6 p.m. Oct. 2 for the budget hearing and for board members to tour the construction site.

• Authorized Hermes to begin a survey of the Lincoln School property for a possible sale in the future.

• Learned third-grade teacher Sally Wilcoxen, Kennedy School librarian Patti Sment, special education aide Sharon Colmone and library aide Pat Watson have announced their request for retirement.
