CHATTAHOOCHEE, Fla. — Charles “Chuck” Omer Broomall of Chattahoochee, Fla., passed away Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2013, at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital.
Born July 10, 1923, in South Bend, Ind., to Charles J. and Olive (VanOssenbruggen) Broomall, he married Shirlee M. Schick Aug. 28, 1948. She preceded him in death in 2004.
After graduating from Plymouth High School, he enlisted in the Army Air Corp. During his service for his country he received the Purple Heart. After leaving the service, he attended Purdue University where he earned a bachelor of science in forestry. His first employment after graduation was in commercial mushroom growing. This formed the basis for his approximately 50 years as a commercial mushroom grower — a career he much enjoyed.
Surviving are three children, Susan (Peter) Harris of Boston, Mass., Phillip (Vicky) Broomall of Frankfort, Ky., and Bruce Broomall of Chattahoochee, Fla.; his former wife, Anita (Forman) Broomall of Georgetown, Ky.; four grandchildren, Andrea Broomall (Eric) Riddell, Phillip (Donna) Broomall, Nathanael Broomall and Michael (Lauren) Broomall; two great-grandchildren, Rachael and Rebecca Footland; and one sister, Opal (Fred) Freier of Arvada, Colo.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services were held Aug. 20 in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home in South Bend, Ind. Burial was in Highland Cemetery. Visitation was held prior to the services in the funeral home.
