Just as the weather is starting to heat up in northern Illinois, so is everyone’s desire for some football. At this point of the year, I know I am.
As written up in the cover story of the 2013 Kickoff section found here in today’s BCR, all five of the Bureau County teams will be playing under one umbrella this year as members of the Three Rivers Athletic Conference. It’s the first time that’s ever happened dating back to the days of NCIC, Blackhawk, Little Ten and Indian Valley football.
That in itself, makes the 2013 season in more exciting. It won’t happen this year with the five teams split into two divisions in the Three Rivers, but soon there’s a good chance all five teams will play one another when crossover games rotate. That will make for real bragging rights in the county.
I encourage everyone to get out to the gridiron to sport your hometown team. It doesn’t matter if you have a son or grandson playing or a daughter or granddaughter cheering.
Get out there and let those kids know you are supporting them. We should support all the fall sports teams and activities. These kids put in a lot of time perfecting their game. We owe it to them.
Most importantly, be a good fan, a positive fan. There’s no need any negative thoughts out there. Let the kids have fun.
And be safe out there. It can get hot in the stands with the sun bearing down on you.
