PRINCETON — With the theme of “It’s Good to be Home,” the 42nd annual Homestead Festival will kick off Friday.
Friday events will include Bureau County Historical Society Museum tours, Owen Lovejoy Homestead tours, twilight horse-drawn wagon rides, the Princeton Junior Woman’s Club pulled pork barbecue dinner and ice cream social, the announcement of the baby contest winners and window display winners, the introduction of the grand marshal, the opening reception for the artwork of Barry Mayworm and “Those Funny Little People.” Performances Friday night will include “Black Top Hat” featuring the Generics and Festival 56’s “Hometown-Anonymous.”
Saturday’s events will include the Underground Railroad 5K race, children’s fun fair, Princeton High School tours, a bags tournament, talent showcase, Owen Lovejoy Homestead tours, arts and crafts show, the “Make It With Lard” pie baking contest, Prairie Arts Center exhibit, Festival 56’s “Hometown-Anonymous,” helicopter rides, skate park competition, stamp cancellation, a blues concert and the annual parade. The Bureau County Pork Producers will serve seasoned butterfly pork chops and pork burgers at Soldiers and Sailors Park.
Sunday’s events will include a pancake breakfast, flea market, car show, arts and crafts show, Jazz worship service, children’s tractor pull, petting zoo, Prairie Arts Center exhibit, Festival’s 56’s “Hometown-Anonymous,” Owen Lovejoy Homestead tours, talent showcase and the 50/50 drawing. The Bureau County Pork Producers will also be serving at Soldier and Sailors Park. The third annual BBQ rib cook-off will also be held Sunday, with payouts for the first- through fifth-places. The Princeton Jaycees’ beer gardens will be Friday and Saturday nights at Darius Miller Park. Rodeo Drive will perform Friday night and Hairbanger’s Ball will perform Saturday night.
