Storm shine in home opener

Bureau Valley made its debut to the Storm Shelter in fine form Thursday, defeating Kewanee 25-15, 25-17.

Lindsey Hoffert had 10 kills in a Three Rivers crossover victory. Carlie Bickett and Valerie Reuter added seven kills apiece. Reuter also led the Storm (2-0) with nine points and eight digs. Hoffert (2 aces) and Sydney Lebahn (26 assists) chipped in seven points each.

Amboy 2, Hall 1: The host Lady Devils and Lady Clippers of Amboy split their first two matches by identical scores of 25-14, the first set to Amboy and the second to Hall. The third set went down to the wire with the Lady Clippers sneaking away with a 26-24 win, rallying from a five-point deficit

Hall coach Megan Nation said it was the best her Hall team has played this season.

Clarrisa Gerrard (6 kills), Shelby Justi (5) and Ellen Herrmann (4) led the Hall attack up front. Lexi Piccatto had a team-high 13 digs with contributions from Brooke Keegan (2 kills, 10 assists 3 aces) and Vanessa Olivares (2 kills, 4 aces, 5 digs).

Madeline Ely served up a storm for Amboy with 21 service points and had 10 assists. Hannah McCoy had six kills and three blocks.

Mendota 2, Rockford Christian 0: The Spikers improved to 2-1 with a Big Northern win on the road Thursday. Brooke Carroll and Ally Bromenschenkel had three kills each.

Princeville 2, Annawan 1: The Princesses topped the Bravettes in Lincoln Trail play Thursday. Taylor Shaw had 11 kills and seven digs and Megan Foes eight kills and 12 digs and six for the Bravettes (0-2). Rachael Peterson added 20 assists, nine points and three aces and Kate Sturtewagen had eight digs and five points.

El Paso-Gridley 2, Henry 0: Cassidy Sanneman had three kills in defeat for the Lady Mallards Thursday.
