Agricultural Summary Sept. 21
Temperatures throughout the state were near normal last week. Statewide temperatures averaged 71.6 degrees, 1.0 degree above normal. Precipitation across the state averaged 0.27 inches, 0.36 inches below normal.
Crop conditions declined slightly last week due to continued dry weather in much of the state. There were 6.8 days suitable for fieldwork.
Topsoil moisture was rated at 31 percent very short, 48 percent short, and 21 percent adequate. Subsoil moisture was rated at 20 percent very short, 48 percent short and 32 percent adequate. Corn dough reached 95 percent, compared to 100 percent last year and the five-year average of 96 percent. Corn in the dent stage reached 69 percent, compared to 97 percent last year and the five-year average of 78 percent. Corn condition was rated at 3 percent very poor, 11 percent poor, 31 percent fair, 44 percent good and 11 percent excellent.
Soybeans turning yellow reached 18 percent. Soybean condition was rated at 4 percent very poor, 12 percent poor, 35 percent fair, 42 percent good and 7 percent excellent.
Pasture conditions were rated at 9 percent very poor, 28 percent poor, 40 percent fair, 19 percent good and 4 percent excellent.
