IVCC offers training courses

OGLESBY — Illinois Valley Community College’s Business Training Center will offer Department of Transportation (DOT) Required Hazardous Material Training and OSHA 10 Hour Industry Training courses in September.

The one-session DOT course will meet from 1 to 5 p.m. Wednesday in Room C325. Cost is $149. The DOT requires training for employees receiving or shipping hazardous materials. The training includes 49 CFR hazardous materials table, packaging of materials, shipping papers and other documentation, and recognizing potential hazardous conditions when receiving packages.

Participants are encouraged to bring a list of products they ship or receive and samples of shipping papers. DOT Homeland Security training is included in the course.

The two-session 10 Hour General Industry Training will meet from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 19 and 8 a.m. to noon Sept. 20 in Room 101 of Building H on east campus. Cost is $269.

Participants will learn the major provisions of the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA). Topics include the inspection and citation process, working and walking surfaces, emergency plans and exit routes, material safety data sheets and labeling, electrical safety, machine guarding and record keeping.

The course can be customized to meet the participants’ needs. OSHA’s 10 Hour General Industry card will be earned upon completion of the course. For information, call 815-224-0280.
