Kayla Hunt, the new owner of The Dog House in Princeton, trims the nails of one of her clients at the business she currently bought from Roger and Clara Ault.

PRINCETON — Kayla Hunt is the new owner of The Dog House located in Princeton.

“I want to let everyone know we are open under new management,” said Hunt, who currently lives in Franklin Grove.

Hunt graduated from the PetSmart Grooming Academy in Algonquin. She was sent there after working at PetSmart in Sterling and was noticed for doing a good job of bathing animals.

In order to be able to groom or cut a pet’s hair, a person needs to be trained, and Hunt took that next step when going to the academy. She also had to groom 100 dogs or cats after graduation before being able to open her own place.

Hunt runs a mobile grooming business in this area and found out the building where The Dog House had been operating was available. Roger and Clair Ault had run The Dog House for almost 30 years, but retired from managing the shop, although they still own the building.

Hunt made connections with Ault after searching for a place to buy some grooming products. She then found out the building was empty and talked with Ault about operating a grooming business out of the building.

She now owns the business and will be offering deshedding treatments for bigger dogs like German shepherds or huskies where their undercoat is released. She will also offer boarding and grooming services for dogs and cats, plus she’ll do flea baths and even nail painting.

“I do a real good job and want people to realize that the former person (who ran the business for six months after the Aults left) is not here any more,” she added. “Nobody who worked here before is working here now.”

People can contact Hunt at 779-245-3040 or through her Facebook page at www.facebook.com/thedoghouse2013.

She also ran Pampered Pawz in Sterling for 18 months before starting a mobile grooming business.

“I have always had an interest in pets,” she added.
