DAR meeting minutes

PRINCETON — The Princeton-Illinois Chapter NSDAR opened its 2013-14 chapter year at Four and Twenty Cafe in Princeton on Sept. 7. The meeting was called to order by Regent Sharon Bittner.  The Pledge to the Flag of the United States was led by Flag Chairman, Juanita Tarrence, followed by group recitation of the Preamble to the Constitution of the United States.

Lesley Gonigam read the President General’s Report.  Chairman Marie Roth gave the National Defense Report with a Constitution Minute read by Chairman Vicki Kapp.

The Chapter received 2 awards at Continental Congress in Washington, D.C. – the Chapter Achievement Award, Level One, and third place nationally for a scrapbook detailing the chapter’s events commemorating the War of 1812.

Reports were given on the Chapter’s entry for the Homestead Festival window decorating contest and for the vehicle entry for the parade.

Members signed up for once-a-month clean-up at Darius Miller Park.  This chapter year marks the 15th year for this public service commitment by the Princeton DAR members.

Collection was taken for Project Patriot, and the members voted to become a Partner of the Viet Nam War Commission.

The program, “Journey to Secure the Blessings of Liberty,” was presented by Constitution Week Chairman, Vicki Kapp.

The next meeting will be Oct. 4 at the Prouty Building when the program will celebrate the NSDAR commitment to our American Heritage with “Signature Quilts” presented by Lenora Carey.
