Interstate 80 was closed for several hours Monday evening after a two-vehicle crash on the west edge of Bureau County.
According to the Illinois State Police report, Shuhrat Mirzayev, 24, of Lodi, Calif., had parked his truck tractor/ tanker trailer, carrying a flammable liquid, on the south shoulder of Interstate 80 about seven miles west of Route 40, when it was struck in the rear by a truck tractor/semi trailer, hauling about 42,000 pounds of tomatoes and driven by Raul Venegas, 53, of El Paso, Texas.
Hazardous-materials crews responded to the crash site because the tanker truck spilled an estimated 3,800 gallons of flammable liquid onto the interstate. The eastbound lanes of the interstate were closed from 5:38 p.m. Monday until 1:53 a.m. Tuesday.
According to the ISP report, Venegas reported no injuries, and Mirzayev was transported from the scene to Hammond Henry Hospital in Geneseo.
