DePue senior soccer standout Carlos Acosta is taking aim on the IHSA record books.

With two goals in Wednesday’s 6-0 win over LaSalle-Peru, Acosta now has 27 this year and 107 for his career. He needs 13 more to move into the Top 20 all-time in the IHSA. Justin Sells of Rockton Hononegah is ranked 20th with 120 from 1990-93. The all-time leader is Carlos Posada of Crete Mone with 177 from 2007-11.

Volleyball leaders

Princeton is off to a good start in its first run in the Three Rivers Conference volleyball, standing 3-0 tied for first place in the South Division standings. The Tigresses have defeated Orion, Rockridge and St. Bede, winning six games and losing just one game.

Sherrard improved to 3-0 with a 2-0 win over Hall. St. Bede (1-2) stands fifth and Hall (0-4) seventh.

Sterling Newman and Erie are tied atop the North Division at 4-0 with Bureau Valley third at 4-1.

Locally, LaSalle-Peru remains undefeated in 13 matches; Mendota stands 10-5.

Regional assignments

The IHSA has released regional assignments in four sports. They are:

Volleyball: The Hall 2A Regional will include the Lady Devils, plus locals St. Bede and Putnam County along with Eureka, El-Paso Gridley and Fieldcrest. Princeton will compete in its second season in 3A at Streator, looking to play its way home for sectional. It will be joined by LaSalle-Peru, Mendota and Morris.

Boys golf: Putnam County is the local 1A host at Edgewood Park Golf Club in McNabb where Amboy/LaMoille, Bureau Valley, DePue, Hall and St. Bede will play. The 2A Regional hosted by LaSalle-Peru at Oak Ridge Golf Course will include Princeton and Mendota.
