OGLESBY — Illinois Valley Community College has received $200,000 in state funding it will use for enhancement within the soon-to-open Peter Miller Community Technology Center.

The special appropriation, made possible by State Rep. Frank Mautino (D-Spring Valley), pushes the Community Technology Center capital campaign over the $2 million mark, said President Jerry Corcoran.

“As I look around this campus, I am amazed at the impact our local legislators have had on its development, particularly Frank and former State Sen. Gary Dahl. Both gentlemen have played key roles in championing new programs, enhancing our facilities, inspiring adult education students to obtain their GEDs and providing the necessary funds to support our veterans,” said Corcoran.

“In the same way community colleges were developed to respond to the needs of the communities they serve, Frank and Gary have done a phenomenal job over the years of making sure that IVCC’s needs have been prioritized at the state level.

“This special appropriation through the Illinois Community College Board (ICCB) to be used in support of the CTC campaign, is the absolute best news one could ever imagine as we approach the Nov. 1 grand opening,” Corcoran said.

“Our goal of raising $2.1 million is now well within reach, thanks to this funding made possible by one of our most distinguished alumni, Representative Frank Mautino.”

In 2009, Mautino and Dahl were instrumental in helping the college acquire the $22.8 million capital development appropriation that financed 75 percent of the $30.5 million project.

Corcoran also credited State Sen. Sue Rezin (R-Morris) for playing a crucial role in securing the $200,000 appropriation.
