Rockets blast Devils

SPRING VALLEY — Rockridge came to Spring Valley Friday and continued their winning ways, topping the Red Devils 63-34.

The Rockets jumped out to a 27-point lead early in the first giving the Devils a tough hill to climb. That didn’t stop Hall from trying to get back into the game as they managed to trim the Rockets lead down to two scores near the middle of the third quarter 42-28.

Hall was ultimately unable to hold the Rockets long enough to get any closer.

“I like the heart of the kids and the way that they didn’t quit,” Hall coach Randy Tieman said. “We got down 27 points in the first quarter and we had a chance there if we come out and score in the second half to cut it to one score and we didn’t play well on the kickoff. We seem to always want to put ourselves in a hole and we’re not a good enough team at this point to that. We have to come out ready from the opening kickoff.”

The Devils quarterback Taggert Venegas led his team with 157 rushing yards and three touchdowns.

Ultimately it was the Rockets big play offense that was too much for Hall. The Rockets first score was a 70-yard bomb from quarterback Darren Southwell to Dalton McManus.

Hall followed that play with a three and out on offense and McManus broke an 82-yard run in the Rockets ensuing series to go up 14-0.

After another Hall punt Southwell went on an 83-yard scamper and just like that the Rockets were in the driver’s seat up 21-0.

Venegas attempted to carry his team into contention with great running and a little gunslinging that helped him amass four interceptions on the night.
