At Kewanee: Amboy/LaMoille’s Megan Grady and Hall’s Al Baldonado captured first place in Saturday’s Kewanee Boiler Invitational.
Grady turned in a winning time of 19 minutes, 31 seconds. Baldonado raced off with the boys meet in 16:41.
The Lady Clippers placed second in a 14-team field headed by IVC (66). Jennifer Popovich (9th, 21:32) cracked the top 10 and Erin Hosto was 13th (22:26).
The Hall boys (48) also came in second with Mid-County (33) first and Sherrard (83). Sandro Aldana placed eighth (18:25) for Hall and teammate Tyler Pullam was 11th (18:47).
St. Bede placed sixth (142) as a team, paced by 15th Jake Condon (18:58) and 17th Leo Lopez (20:13).
At Sterling: Zoe Mead led Princeton with a season best’s 19:49 to place 22nd in Saturday’s Rock River Run. Freshman Casey Schertz knocked 30 seconds off her season best of 25:41 to place 149th for Princeton, which was 14th (408).
“Zoe looked strong today. She’s at the best she’s ever been at this point of the season,” PHS coach Pat Hodge said.
Mason Hunt (107th, 20:19) and Patrick Arabia (111th, 20:31) improved from 45 seconds to one minute, Hodge said, in the boys race. Cody Workman placed 16th on his 16th birthday in the F/S race with a the of 18:42.
