The Princeton Tigers placed third out of 12 teams in Saturday’s Mendota Ryder Cup.
Rock Falls beat out Ottawa 231-240 for top team honors with the Tigers third at 242. St. Bede (256) was sixth and Hall (258) seventh.
The Tigers’ two-man team of Zach Hicks and Ian Nichols also placed third overall with a 75, just one stroke behind the winning score of 74 by Mendota’s Cody Phalen and Jaron Robinson.
“Our strategy to place our top two players together (Zach and Ian) paid dividends as they took third and helped us place third as a team,” PHs coach Duane Hicks said. “Although the tournament is a different format, we can take pride in beating some of our conference and regional foes. Hopefully, we’ll use the tournament results as a confidence boost heading into the postseason.”
Also scoring for the Tigers were the teams of Colin Pierson and Miles Rose turned in an 81 and Colby Robbins and Derec Roberson an 84.
Hall’s Pete Mautino and Nick Scheri placed eighth with St. Bede’s Joe Dudek and Brady Donohue 10th, both teams at 80.
The top team for 11th place Bureau Valley was Ryan Young and Logan Twidell at 87.
