Tigresses sixth at Reed-Custer
Hall, Princeton and St. Bede all made the trek to Braidwood Saturday to compete in the Lady Comet Classic at Reed-Custer High School.
Princeton placed sixth overall, finishing with a 3-2 mark on the day. First up in pool play, the Tigresses squared off against defending 2A state champion and Deer Creek-Mackinaw (Dee-Mack), the day’s eventual winner, falling 21-17, 21-11. PHS bounced back with a 21-13, 21-17 win over Momence and a 21-17, 21-10 win over Clifton Central.
In the second-place bracket, the Tigresses defeated Mendota 25-14, 19-25, 15-10, but lost to Cissna Park 23-25, 25-21, 15-7 to place sixth.
Ashley Farraher had a well-rounded day with 25 kills, 29 points, 17 digs and 14 aces. Alicia Poss led PHS (18-5) with 29 kills, Hailey Schultz had 27 kills and Becca Hult added 18 kills with five blocks. Michelle Kelly had an even 100 assists with 25 points, Hailey Michael had 12 points and 10 digs and Mollie Bates 33 digs and 18 points.
St. Bede went 1-2 in pool play with losses to Streator 21-17, 21-15 and Morris 21-15, 21-16 and a win over Christ Lutheran 21-5, 21-10. The Lady Bruins won the third place bracket, defeating Hall 25-20, 25-20 and Clifton Central 25-15, 25-21.
Stat leaders on the day for St. Bede (10-12) were Morgan King (27 points, 5 aces, 5 kills, 65 digs), Morgan Bosnich (19 points, 41 assists, 7 aces, 6 kills, 32 digs), Samantha Whalen (48 digs, 13 kills, 2 blocks), Olivia Mueller (7 kills, 6 blocks), Claire Dudek (12 kills), Hanna Bima (11 kills, 2 blocks) and Julia Pohar 21 (4 aces).
Hall also finished 1-2 in pool play, picking up a 21-12, 21-17 win over Henry. Ellen Herrmann and Emily Hoscheid each had four kills in the match. The Lady Devils lost to Seneca 21-11, 21-16 and lost to Cissna Park 21-13, 21-9. Herrmann had eight kills in defeat to St. Bede in the third-place bracket.
Dee-Mack defeated Tinley Park for the championship.
At Byron: The Princeton freshmen finished fourth out of 12 teams,
At Rock Falls: The Princeton sophomores finished seventh in tournament play by defeating Rochelle Saturday. They lost to Dixon, L-P and Rock Falls in pool play.
