IHSA golf regionals at a glance

(Continued from Page 1)

At Granville (1A boys)

Where: Edgewood Park Golf Club, McNabb.

Area schools: Bureau Valley, Hall, DePue, Putnam County, St. Bede. Others: Beecher, Morgan Park Academy, Newark, Richton Park, Seneca, Somonauk, Wilmington.

At a glance: The regional field is vast ranging from Manlius to the west, host Putnam County to the South, Chicago Morgan Park Academy to the North and Beecher and Wilmington to East. It will be well worth the trip for the top three team who will advance to sectionals. Hall, led by senior Pete Mautino, and St. Bede, led by junior Joe Dudek and sophomore Jarret Olson, will look for one of those spots playing close to home. BV senior Ryan Young would like to join them, a returning sectional qualifier, who has played strong all year, coach Dan Gustafson. Classmate Logan Twidell is also hopeful to advance.

Advancement: Top three teams and top 10 individuals from non-qualifying teams go to to the Byron Sectional, Prairie View Vista Golf Course, Oct. 14.

At LaSalle (2A boys)

Where: Senica’s Oak Ridge Golf Course.

Area schools: LaSalle-Peru, Mendota, Princeton. Others: Dixon, Ottawa, Rochelle, Rock Falls, Sterling, Streator.

At a glance: Princeton enters the field having finished as the Three Rivers Conference runner-up. They will face bigger schools at the 2A level, however. “As a team, our goal is simply to be in the top three teams that advance. We realize that some teams in our regional are heavily favored, including Sterling and Rock Falls. I have been honest with our guys and explained that, using the cliche, ‘on any given day,’ anything can happen. Hopefully the team takes my message to heart that if we simply focus on one shot at a time, then all we can do is add up the total in the end and see what happens. ... Senior captain Zach Hicks will lead the Tigers into the postseason fray. Price said Hicks has been waiting for “that one shining 18-hole round,” and a change in putter might lead him there.

Advancement: Top three teams and top 10 individuals from non-qualifying teams advance to the Freeport Sectional, Park Hills Golf Course, Oct. 14.

Where: Edgewood Park Golf Club, McNabb

Area schools: DePue, Hall, Putnam County, St. Bede. Others: Beecher, Braidwood Reed-Custer, Coal City, Grant Park, Kankakee McNamara, Manteno, Mendota, Morris, Peotone, Seneca.

Where: Hawthorne Ridge Golf Course, Aledo.

Area schools: Henry, Princeton. Others: Aledo Mercer County, Cambridge, Galva, Geneseo, Kewanee, Knoxville, Orion, Riverdale, Rockridge, Sherrard, Stark County.

At a glance: The regional will be a half a redux of last week’s Three Rivers Conference Meet with Princeton joined by five league foes. The Tigresses advanced to sectional last year with a third-place finish behind Mercer County and Rockridge and return their lineup intact to make another run. Geneseo is the team to beat.
