History comes alive this weekend with the 16th annual Shadows of the Blue and Gray Civil War re-enactment at the City-County Park, north of Princeton. The two-day event begins at 10 a.m. Saturday with special events scheduled throughout the day until the park closes at 9 p.m. Shadows of the Blue and Gray will continue on Sunday, beginning at 9 a.m. and closing at 4 p.m.

Spokesperson Randy Woodbury said this year’s event will be filled with the traditional favorite happenings like a visit from President and Mrs. Abraham Lincoln, period artisans and crafts, and Civil War battles. This weekend’s event will also include several new opportunities to enjoy, including a “Civil War: Did You Know” program for children and a special presentation on Illinois women during the Civil War, Woodbury said. Admission is $5 for persons ages 6 years and older. Children ages 5 and younger are admitted free. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
