Ann Mercier

SPRING VALLEY — Ann M. Mercier, 98, of Spring Valley died at 5:57 a.m. Friday, Oct. 4, 2013, in the Spring Valley Nursing Center.

She was born April 6, 1915, in Spring Valley to Anton and Anna (Lokosis) Laugal. She attended Miller Country School and Hall High School. She married Hank Mercier in 1933.

She was a homemaker and along with her husband owned and operated Mercier’s Tavern in Spring Valley from 1946 until retirement in 1984. Ann was an accomplished seamstress, an avid gardener with a green thumb for both flowers and vegetables, and was happiest when she could be outdoors. She loved to cook and bake and is famous for her fried chicken, fish and roast beef sandwiches and those wonderful homemade buns. In the later years of her life she enjoyed the company and friendship of her kitties and counted them her great friends.

She is survived by her two sons, Eugene (Marlene) Mercier and Charles (Linda) Mercier, both of Spring Valley; six grandchildren, Mikki Williams, Jenee Elrod, Lynn Walker, and Colette, Chuck and Neal Mercier; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two brothers, John Laugal of Spring Valley and Charles Laugal of Lostant; and two sisters, Joann (Harvey) Moehl of Enumclaw, Wash., and Dorothy (Bob) Golightly of Irving, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a grandson, Mark Mercier; three brothers, Tony, Joe and Albert Laugal; and three sisters, Irene Glass, Lillian Preston and Paula Jean Blinoff.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Hurst Funeral Home, LaSalle. Burial will be in Valley Memorial Park, Spring Valley.

Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Darrin Walker, Chuck Mercier, Neal Mercier Justin Williams, Garrett Solmon, Jay Solmon, Jerry Williams and Alaric Mercier.
