PERU — The Bruins capped off a week of Homecoming celebration with a showdown against Rockridge. As has been the case for most of the competition so far this season, it was a bad day for the Bruins as they tried to keep pace with the high octane offense of the Rockets.

St. Bede made some aggressive attempts to stay in the game but in the end turned the ball over more times than they found the end zone and Rockridge piled up 55 points to the Bruins’ 20 to walk away with another win.

“They’ve done it all year,” St. Bede coach John Bellino said. “They’re just a good football team They don’t make mistakes. They just outclassed us really. We came out with stars in our eyes and just weren’t ready to go. We worked on that stuff and just didn’t get it accomplished.”

The Rockets improved to 6-0, 4-0 atop the Three Rivers South Division. St. Bede stands at 4-2 overall, 1-2 for fourth place in the league heading into this week’s rivalry game at Hall.

Bruin quarterback Jack Brady was 11 of 24 passing for 128 yards and one touchdown. Justin Shaw led the Bruins with 33 yards rushing. Sam Halm added a 65-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.

The Rockets didn’t waste any time jumping on top of the Bruins 28-0 in the first quarter.

Quarterback Darren Southwell and Luke Johnson connected on two touchdowns during the first three minutes of the game on 10- and 55-yard plays through the air.

True to form, Southwell broke a 53-yard touchdown run with under six minutes to go in the quarter and Johnson broke a 79-yard punt return for a score to round out the first 12 minutes in the contest.

Brady put the Bruins on the board connecting with Shaw on a 12-yard pass with less than a minute to go in the first half.

In the second half, the Bruins came out playing catch-up and Brady racked up 67 yards on five passes before throwing three interceptions erasing any chance of a comeback.

The Bruins got within 34-14 with a 12-yard pass from Brady to Shaw late in the third quarter and a 7-yard run by Michael Bellino early in the fourth quarter.

The Rockets continued to find the endzone, adding 21 points to their tally before the final horn sounded.

• Rockridge won the sophomore game 40-6.
