In an attempt to help raise money for a new playground, students at Malden Grade School have gotten involved by participating in a unique fundraiser that is fun, active and is helping reach the $25,000 goal for new equipment. A jug has been placed in each classroom at the school, and students have been asked to bring in extra change for the collection. Last month, the school was able to collect a total of $213.53. Classrooms have competed against one another to see who could raise the highest dollar amount. Last month, the first-grade class collected the most with $60 raised. Superintendent Mike Patterson explained the current playground equipment is old and wooden and is pushing 22 years. The school anticipates replacing the equipment with more modern, updated structures by next spring.
