Hall’s Collin Aimone gets some yards Friday against St. Bede at Nesti Stadium in Spring Valley.

SPRING VALLEY — Most people had Hall losing Friday night’s showdown with the St. Bede. They were wrong.

In a game filled with turnovers, Collin Aimone got the last laugh, picking off the Bruins’ Jack Brady to ice the game for the Devils late in the fourth quarter. St. Bede led for two and a half quarters in the contest but came up short 27-20.

“Collin had another great game. That’s like three weeks in a row he’s stepped up for us and done some really good things. We’re getting him in more on defense. He’s a playmaker,” Hall coach Randy Tieman said. “We had some big interceptions tonight. They moved the ball on us a little there. We’ve been talking a little bit about stepping in front and breaking on balls and we started doing it last week. We definitely did it tonight. Our defense is really coming around.”

Hall scored first getting into the red zone on a halfback pass from Jacob Byczynski and moments later Chris Hammonds found the end zone to put the Devils (4-3) up one score.

“That’s what we had planned on all week,” Tieman said. The Bruins (4-3) responded, scoring 15 unanswered points before Hall was able to get back on the board just before halftime.

St. Bede was able to get two points on a safety after a bad snap sailed over Matt Krolak’s head at the end of the third quarter. The Bruins put themselves in a good position after the free kick but then failed to convert on a field goal. St. Bede’s Matt Szczepaniak had the team’s only offensive points in the second half with a field goal in the fourth quarter. With time running out the Bruins were in control of their own destiny but Brady threw his third interception of the game to Aimone and Hall was able to run out the clock.
