Roy Grigalonas

ROCKFORD — Roy R. Grigalonas, 93, of Rockford died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2013, in Bickford House.

He was born Sept. 27, 1920, in Spring Valley, the son of John and Isabelle (Paulkaitus) Grigalonas. He married Margaret Person on Oct. 19, 1946, at the Old Stone Church in Rockton. She predeceased him on Nov. 21, 2003.

Roy served his country in the Army in World War II earning two Bronze Stars, a Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, the American Theatre Ribbon and the Victory Ribbon. He worked at Rockford Products from 1941 to 1982, retiring as a foreman. He was a member of Alpine Lutheran Church and the Rockford Products Retiree Organization. He enjoyed golf, fishing, woodworking and word search puzzles.

He is survived by his daughters, Margo Grigalonas and Marlene (Michael) Bukowski of Rockford; grandchildren, Melissa (Matt) Stucky of Loves Park and Alexandra Bukowski of Chicago; and brother, Joseph (Carole) Grigalonas of Spring Valley. He was predeceased by his sister, Rose Marie. Thanks to Heartland Hospice and Bickford House for all their help and caring.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the Alpine Lutheran Church, 5001 Forest View Ave., with the Rev. Woody Knutson officiating. Burial will be in Arlington Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Olson Funeral & Cremation Services Ltd., Fred C. Olson Chapel, 1001 Second Ave., and from 9:45 to 10:15 a.m. before the service on Monday at church.

Memorials may be made to Alpine Lutheran Church or to the Alzheimer’s Association, 1111 S. Alpine Road, Rockford, IL 61108.
