Cross country

At Amboy: Amboy freshmen Megan Grady led all area runners with a ninth-place finish in Monday’s Columbus Day Cross Country Invitational, turning in a time of 8 minutes, 16 seconds over the 2.9-mile Shady Oaks Country Club course.

It was the best finish by an Amboy runner since the invite’s infancy, when the race was divided among small and big schools.

The Clippers of Amboy/LaMoille finished 13th as a team with 385 points. Rounding out the lineup were Jennifer Popovich (54th, 19:53), Erin Hosto (111th, 21:06), Kaitlin Boers (114th, 21:09) and Sydney Langlier (159th, 22:12).

Senior Zoe Mead topped Princeton with a time of 20:20, good for 22nd place. Sophomore Alex Smallwood ran a season-best, 27:34 placing 175th. Also for PHS were Casey Schertz (173rd, 27:07), Megan Hendrickson (176th, 28:01) and Kira Harp (182nd, 30:52).

Katelin Johnson paced 24th Bureau Valley with a time of 20:42, good for 92nd. Also for the Storm were Helena Amadottir (95th, 20:44), Riley Francis (139, 21:47), Heather Williams (145th, 21:55), Roni Riggen (154th, 22:02), Kelly Sierens (176th, 22:50) and Lauren Peterson (186th, 23:20).

The Bureau Valley boys finished 11th, led by Daniel Trone, 39th in 16:15. Also for the Storm were Bureau Valley runners Kane Eastwood (46th, 16:25), Colton Peterson (80th, 17:03), Yulian Osorio (88th, 17:15), Andrew Smith (98th, 17:31) and Kody Church (102nd, 17:34).

Patrick Arabia  (164th, 19:53) and Alex Biggs  (174th, 20:47) clocked  season bests for Princeton, which did not field a full squad. Also running for the Tigers were Mason Hunt  (167th, 20:06) and Peter Wang (176th, 28:36) with Cody Workman placing 79th (18:28) in the F/S race.

Ben Hosto (113th, 17:48) and Skylar Wheeler (137th, 18:15) were top runners for Amboy/LaMoille.
