The Bureau Valley Storm hit a big bump in the road Friday night, knocking them off course for a playoff bid, falling at Port Byron Riverdale 46-38.

The Rams (1-7) rode the big rushing game of Jerry White, who run for 366 yards and four touchdowns, to their first win of the season. His 17-yard score with 1:18 remaining sealed the Storm’s fate.

Two of White’s touchdowns came after the Rams successfully recovered onside kicks.

The Storm fell to 3-5 with the loss and will come up short on the playoffs once again.

BV took a 40-38 lead on a 28-yard pass to Blake Balensiefen with 6:02 left in the game. It was the second TD pass thrown by quarterback Parker Neuhalfen, who also rushed for 140 yards. Tommy Johnston scored three TDs.

“They made the plays when they needed to, we didn’t. Riverdale came ready to play from the start,” BV coach Jeff Ohlson said.
