Tigers blank Wilmington 5-0 to defend regional championship

TISKILWA - The Princeton Tigers shut out Wilmington 5-0 at the Tiskilwa soccer pitch Saturday to repeat as IHSA regional soccer champions.

The Tigers (16-4-4) advance to the Mendota 1A Sectional to face the host Trojans (9-11-2) on their home turf.

Tyler Marvin got the ball rolling just over three minutes into play to give the Tigers a quick 1-0 lead. TGhat would be the only score keeper Lucas Bauer and the Tiger defense would need.

Brenton Schmidt added a goal off a throw-in to make it 2-0 at the half. The Tigers' onslaught continued with a goal by senior captain Jacob Estrada, a header by Dylan Schaefer and a fifth goal by Kai Tomaszewski with 11 minutes remaining.

PHS coach Jason Bird said the Tigers are not satisfied with what they got. PHS lost to HBR in last year's sectional semifinals at Mendota.
