OGLESBY — Former Illinois Valley Community College basketball stars Kevin Fay of Putnam County and Alec Schwab of Peru will return to their alma mater when IVCC hosts William Penn University in an exhibition game at 4 p.m. Saturday.
Fay led the Eagles in 2010-11 and Schwab in 2011-12 and 2012-13 before transferring to William Penn in Oskaloosa, Iowa. With Fay in the Statesmen backcourt last season, William Penn (34-2) finished second in the NAIA Division II national championships and 12-0 in the Midwest Collegiate Conference.
As a sophomore, Schwab was named a third team NJCAA Division II All-American, averaged 19.4 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.1 steals per game for the Eagles, 18-11.
“It’s going to be an emotional day for me,” said IVCC coach Tommy Canale. “Kevin and Alec are special to me. It’s going to be tough.”
The round-robin tournament begins with IVCC vs. College of DuPage at 1 p.m., DuPage vs. William Penn at 2:30 and IVCC vs. William Penn at 4.
