Saturday sports update

Soccer: The season ended for the Princeton soccer team, which fell to Somonauk 2-0 in today's sectional finals at Mendota. The Tigers finish at 18-4-5.

Cross country

At Walnut: Both the Bureau Valley boys (third) and girls (fourth) teams advanced to sectionals in today's 1A regiional at Walnut. Ohio's Johnee Schulte qualified individually. Team champs were the Newman boys and Annawan/Wethersfield girls. Race winners were A/W's Michael Cook (16:12)and Kirstie Ramsey (19:04).

At Seneca: Hall's Al Baldonado won the regional championship with a top time of 16:37. He'll be joined at sectional by his teammates as Hall placed third as a team. Princeton's Cody Workman (19th, 19:01) qualified individually. El Paso Gridley was the team champ.

Princeton's Zoe Mead advanced as the second individual qualifier, placing 13th in 21:49. Fieldcrest's Maria Baldwin won at 19:42.

All sectional qualifiers advance to this week's Oregon Sectional.

Football

St. Bede's season didn't end after all. The Bruins (5-4) sneaked into the 3A playoffs, drawing a first-round date at Winnebago (9-0).

In 2A, Hall (6-3) drew a opening round game at 9-0 Bismack-Henning.
