A moustache for men’s health issues

PRINCETON — A month-long job as a walking billboard is a small price to pay for Chad Brokaw this November. Growing a moustache on the other hand ...

This is the first time that Brokaw will be participating in a global fundraiser known as Movember. During the month of November, men grow moustaches to raise awareness and funds for men’s health issues. Why moustaches?

“A moustache is a noticeable thing,” said Brokaw. “It’s hard to miss. It’s more noticeable than a pin or a ribbon on someone’s shirt. It’s a conversation starter.”

It’s the conversation part that Brokaw would like more men to have.

“Men don’t really discuss their health with other people,” said Brokaw. “They barely discuss their health with doctors.”

Brokaw works part-time at Princeton Pharmacy. Owner and head pharmacist, Lisa Stefani is donating counter space for a cash donation box.

The best way to donate, however, is online.

“It’s safe, secure, and I won’t have to deal with cash,” said Brokaw. “You can go to and donate directly to the foundation.

“Since it is my first year participating in Movember, my goal is to raise $2,013,” said Brokaw.

The funds raised during Movember go to the two partners of the Movember U.S. branch: The Prostate Cancer Foundation and the Livestrong Foundation.

What started out with 30 guys in Australia in 2003 has grown to a global charity. In 2012, more than 1.1 million men and women in 21 countries participated and more than $136 million was raised for men’s health issues.
