Blood drive

PRINCETON — An American Red Cross blood drive will be from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. today, Thursday, in the First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall, 316 S. Church St., Princeton. You are eligible if you haven’t donated since Sept. 12. A photo ID is needed. Appointment are preferred but walk-ins are welcome. To make an appointment, call Judy at 815-879-2231.

Christmas in the Valley

SPRING VALLEY — Christmas in the Valley will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday throughout Spring Valley. The event will include raffles, shopping specials, pictures with Santa, face painting, children’s games, holiday music, trolley rides, a petting zoo, pony rides and bake sales. There will also be a children’s craft at the library until 1 p.m., a vendor’s show at city hall, and open houses at Valley Flowers and Gifts, and St. Margaret’s Gift Shop.

Services in Ladd

LADD — Harold E. Russell Post 938 American Legion in Ladd will host Veterans Day services at 10:50 a.m. Monday at War Memorial Park in Ladd. All veterans, as well as the public, are invited to attend. In case of rain, the service will be held at Ladd American Legion Hall.

Scouting for food

CHERRY — The Cherry Boy Scouts Troop 1055 will be scouting for food Saturday in Arlington and Cherry. Place non-perishable food donation near your front door or steps before 10 a.m. and the Boy Scouts will pick them up. They will pick up donations from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Aluminum cans will also be picked up during this time for the Scouts recycling program. They are selling Christmas wreaths, garland and baskets until Nov. 15. For more information or to purchase, call 8150-894-2945.

Beer and wine tasting

LADD — A Hy-Vee beer and wine tasting fundraiser will be held from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Saturday in the Ladd Community Center. The event will feature raffles, prizes, appetizers and beer and wine samples. Tickets are $15 in advance or $20 at the door. Tickets are available at the Ladd Village Clerk’s office, Special Effects Hair Salon and North Central Bank. All proceeds will benefit Ladd’s 125th Anniversary Celebration in 2015.

Celebrate Sheffield

SHEFFIELD — Celebrate Sheffield will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 16. The event will include more than 15 villagewide open houses, holiday treats, giveaways and promotion. It will also feature horse-drawn wagon rides, a New-to-You holiday sale, gift basket walk, bake sales, free matinees and popcorn at the Pride Arts Center and much more. Brigham: Songs and

PRINCETON — Festival 56 will host “A Night with Dexter Brigham: Songs and Stories” at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 16 at the Grace Performing Arts Center, 316 S. Main St., Princeton. Brigham, Festival 56 artistic director, will perform his favorite songs from Broadway and the popular music repertoire. Sam Baker in concert

PRINCETON — The Princeton Coffeehouse will present Sam Baker, a Texas native, at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 16. Doors open at 7 p.m. Known for sparse instrumentation and poetic delivery, Baker sings his own original songs as well as old-time spiritual favorites. Tickets are $12. The Coffeehouse is at Open Prairie UCC, 25 E. Marion St., Princeton.

Breastfeeding support

SPRING VALLEY — La Leche League of the Illinois Valley, a breastfeeding support group, will meet at 10 a.m. Nov. 21 in Spring Valley. This monthly group helps mothers gain knowledge and support from other breastfeeding moms. November’s discussion will revolve around, but is not limited to, “Avoiding/Overcoming Difficulties.” Expecting moms are encouraged to attend, as well as new and experienced moms.
