IVCC cagers to tip off

OGLESBY — The Illinois Valley Community College women’s and men’s basketball teams open their seasons at home Saturday and are part of the homecoming festivities.

It will also be the first game for new women’s head coach Tom Ptak of La Salle when his team takes on Daley at 1 p.m.

“After over 30 practices, we are all a little antsy to play our first game,” Ptak said. “What a big weekend at IVCC with the Peter Miller Center grand opening and homecoming. We plan on making the IVCC family proud.”

The IVCC men play Lewis University’s Club team at 3 p.m.

“I am excited to get it going for real and am anxious to see how we do the first three games,” said men’s coach and athletic director Tommy Canale. “I know the guys are looking forward to it; with homecoming attached to the first game it makes it even more special.”

IVCC will host “Community Night” with both the women and men playing University of Wisconsin-Rock County at 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. respectively on Thursday.  Anyone with an in-district ID will be admitted for half price.
