Three Rivers plays on in postseason

Four members of the Three Rivers Athletic Conference — Sterling Newman, Erie, Fulton and Orion — captured IHSA regional volleyball championships Thursday night.

One of the championships came at the expense of a fellow league members when Orion knocked out Sherrard at Rockridge High School. Three Rivers South champ Princeton fell in 3A regional semifinals Tuesday to Morris at Streator.

At Paw Paw (1A): Top-seed Sterling Newman, the Three Rivers North champion, was pushed to three sets by No. 2 Ashton-Franklin Center before winning 25-21, 22-25, 25-14. The Lady Comets (21-12) will advance to the Pearl City Sectional to face Stockton at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

At Lanark (1A): Erie knocked off host Eastland 25-10, 25-13 at Lanark Thursday. The Lady Cardinals (28-7-1) also advance to Pearl City to meet Rockford Keith Country Day at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

At Annawan (1A): The Bravettes fell to neighbor Kewanee Wethersfield 25-14, 25-22. Caitlyn Corwin’s Bravettes (15-15) made a game of it in the second set, but couldn’t quite pull it out. Megan Foes had seven kills and five points and Taylor Shaw added six kills for Annawan.

The Lady Geese head to the Hartsburg Sectional to face Sciota West Prairie at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

At Hinckley (1A): Little Ten Conference champ Newark eliminated host and league rival Hinckley-Big Rock 25-18, 27-25. The Norsemen (21-12) will advance to the Elgin Sectional to face host Harvest Christian Academy at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

At Port Byron (2A): Fulton beat league rival Prophetstown 25-13, 25-21. The Lady Steamers (13-17) will meet Orion in a TRAC crossover clash at the Farmington Sectional at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

At Edgington (2A): A battle of TRAC North foes saw Orion topple Sherrard 25-21, 25-20 at Rockridge High School Thursday. The Lady Chargers face Fulton at Farmington Tuesday.

At Somonauk (2A): The TRAC’s Amboy Clippers (11-18-1)) had no luck with the Seneca Irish, falling 25-17, 25-12.

At Spring Valley Hall (2A): Top-seeded Fieldcrest captured their first regional title since 1995, rolling to a 25-13, 25-18 win over Heart of Illinois Conference rival El Paso-Gridley 25-13, 25-18 Thursday at Red Devil Gym. The Lady Knights (30-4-1) will face Lemont Mt. Assisi Academy at 6 p.m. at the El Paso Sectional.
