Tigers find new home at Orion

With the former Sauk Valley Shootout no longer open for business, the Princeton Tigers will head to the Orion Thanksgiving Tournament to tip off the 2013-14 basketball season.

The tournament features Princeton, Sherrard, Erie, Fulton and the host Chargers all out of the Three Rivers Conference. They are joined by Monmouth-Roseville, Dixon and Aledo Mercer County.Play begins Monday.

The Tigers (6-22 a year ago) jump into the fray at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday against Fulton. They will also play Monmouth-Roseville at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dixon at 4 p.m. Friday and Mercer County at 7 p.m. Nov. 30.

PHS last hosted its Turkey Tournament in 2005, Brandt’s first year at PHS. Since then, they have feasted at the Wethersfield and Sauk Valley Thanksgiving tournaments.

At Wethersfield: The Wally Keller Invitational gets underway Monday night at Wethersfield. There are six teams in the round-robin affair including Putnam County, Midland, Annawan and Bureau Valley.

Monday’s opener matches PC vs. Midland at 5:30 p.m., BV vs. Annawan at 7 p.m. and Wethersfield vs. Elmwood at 8:30 p.m. BV comes back at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday vs. Wethersfield, followed by games at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday vs. Midland, 7 p.m. Thursday vs. Elmwood and at 8:30 p.m. vs. PC.

At Oregon: St. Bede opens Wednesday in the Oregon Tip-Off against Hinckley-Big Rock at 5:45 p.m. They will finish pool play at 7:15 p.m. Friday vs. Byron, concluding the tournament on Nov. 30.

At Seneca: The Hall Red Devils will return to the Seneca Thanksgiving Tournament beginning at 5 p.m. Monday vs. Mendota. The Red Devils will also face Somonauk at 6 p.m. Wednesday, the host Irish at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Tournament finals will be held Nov. 30.

At AFC: LaMoille/Ohio tips off at 6 p.m. Tuesday vs. Polo. The Lions will also play Hiawatha, AFC and Amboy over the course of the next four days.
