Red Devils bring it home

BISMARCK - Hall High School bedeviled Bismarck-Henning 20-7 in a 2A playoff opener Saturday.

Colin Aimone's interception return with six minutes left in the fourth quarter wrapped up a stellar defensive day by the Red Devils.

Aimone also scored on a pass from Taggart Venegas to lift the Red Devils to a 14-7 lead with 3:53 left in the second quarter.

Venegas got Hall on the ball first with a quarterback keeper with 4:58 remaining in the first quarter. BH answered and converted the PAT to take a 7-6 lead at the end of the first quarter.

The win was Hall's first in the playoffs since 2006. With it, Hall (7-3) advances to second round play in which they will host Momence. Momence (6-3), a No.7 seed was also a winner on the road over, defeating No. 2 seed Clifton Central 20-7.

In other 2A play, Sterling Newman blanked Fieldcrest 41-0 and Annawan/Wethersfield fell to Lincoln Trail rival Aledo Mercer County 33-6.

In 3A action, Seneca beat Kewanee 21-14.

Cross country

Oregon Sectional: Hall junior Al Baldonado was the only Bureau County runner to advance to State, placing fifth with a time of 16:12. He will joined by Annawan/Wethersfield's Cody Baele (2nd, 16:07) and Michael Cook (4th, 16:08) and Henry's Alex Pettis (7th, 16:16).

Amboy freshmen Megan Grady qualified in the girls race with a time of 19:33.
