Jessica Sergeant

DAVENPORT, Iowa — Jessica Jane Sergeant, 32, of Davenport, Iowa, formerly of Walnut, passed away Friday, Nov. 1, 2013, at the Walnut Manor Nursing Home in Walnut after a six-year battle with Li Fraumeni disease, a rare cancer causing disease.

Jessica was born on Sept. 12, 1981, in Walnut, the daughter of Jeff and Sally (Rodgers) Wallace. She was united in marriage to James Sergeant Jr. on Aug. 19, 2006, at the Maxson Manor in Oregon, Ill. She worked at Allied Locke in Dixon for several years and at John Deere in Moline and as a Tastefully Simple representative.

Jessica loved to run and was a member of the Rock River Road Runners. Despite having part of her lung removed, Jessica was determined to run as a member of the 2009-2010 Sauk Valley Community College cross country team that qualified for nationals. She was always an active person. She participated in basketball, softball, track, cross country and karate.

She is survived by her husband, James Sergeant Jr. of Davenport, Iowa; her parents, Jeff and Sally Wallace of Walnut; two sisters: Danielle Wallace of Walnut and Suzy Wallace of Naperville; one brother, Darrell (Leslea) Wallace of Sterling; her maternal grandparents, Kenny and Alice Rodgers of Sheffield; two uncles, James (Madolyn) Wallace of LaMoille and Jerry (Chris) Wallace of Champaign; and one aunt, Judy Patton of San Diego, Calif. She also left behind three beloved cats, Paws, Jasper and Muffin. She will dearly miss her nephews, niece and numerous cousins.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Marvin and Lorena Wallace of Walnut.

Jessica wanted to thank and remember all those who shared memories with her. These memories include swimming at the Walnut pool, scrambling for pennies at family reunions, running road races, her annual Fourth of July parties, family get togethers at the Rock River, and playing at Grandpa Rodgers’ farm.

Jessica was a true inspiration to all, especially through her battle with cancer. She is tougher than cancer. Never did she become disheartened. Cancer was not going to stop her from leading a normal life. Jessica said that if her life was summed up in three words it would be: “Totally worth it!”

A time of sharing will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at the Garland Funeral Home in Walnut. A celebration of life will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Please feel free to wear the orange or gray benefit T-shirts to her services in honor of Jessica’s celebration of life.

A memorial has been established in her memory in lieu of flowers.

Condolences may be left at www.garlandfuneralhome.com.
