MANLIUS — Bureau Valley District students and staff invite all area residents to any of their Veterans Day observances scheduled as follows on Monday:

• BV High School/South Jr. High at 8:30 a.m.

• BV North in Walnut at 9 a.m.

• BV South in Buda at 10:30 a.m.

• BV Wyanet Elementary at 2:35 p.m.

The Bureau Valley District has honored all veterans with districtwide observances each year. During the day, students hear from active service people and veterans who relate their experiences, share refreshments and have the opportunity to express their appreciation directly to the veterans.

The high school program will highlight Voice of Democracy speech entries, vocal and instrumental patriotic ensembles, recognition of veterans of each branch of the military and a keynote address by Sgt. Major Tom Root, retired. A multimedia presentation, “Vietnam and Beyond,” will also be presented, along with Taps, and followed by a reception for veterans and their families in the commons.

The BV North program will honor local veterans with a photo story, presentation of colors by the Walnut American Legion and music by the junior high band and choir.

BV South grades 3-5 will hear three area veterans, Roger Nielsen, Tom Mott and Luke Clift speak about their experiences in the military, and view a PowerPoint about the branches of the military and the meaning of Veterans Day. BV South Junior High will attend the high school program.

Wyanet Elementary students will sing and sign patriotic songs and present a PowerPoint poem about branches of the military and Veterans Day.
