PRINCETON — Terri Zearing and her daughter, Sallee, will open in Princeton The Flour House Bakery by the end of November.
“It has been a dream of mine for years to open a bakery,” said Terri. “I have loved baking since I was 8 years old. I had six brothers and would bake every day after school. They would eat it up. My mom was so patient with me baking in her kitchen, while she was preparing for 11 people.”
Sallee Zearing said she was very interested in helping her mother when she came back to the area after graduating from the University of Illinois at Chicago with a bachelor’s degree in fine arts earlier this year.
“We are equal partners in this business,” added Terri. “It will be a bakery and full coffee shop. The focus will be on baking everything homemade, fresh from scratch.”
Sallee plans on making fresh bagels every day, homemade cinnamon rolls, scones, muffins and biscotti.
The unique name of the Zearings’ business was chosen after Sallee told her mother she had a dream where she was in a bakery with the name of Flour House.
“We settled on that idea after throwing around many names,” added Terri. “We felt this would be good name for Princeton and beyond.”
Terri said she has wanted to open a bakery for 8 to 10 years, after her children were out of college.
“This has always been my dream job to own a bakery,” she said. “I love coffee and coffee shops. We plan on offering endless cups of coffee here, so people can come and sit for several hours talking with their friends.”
In addition to breakfast items, Flour House Bakery will also be selling cookies, brownies and other items in the afternoon served with ice cold milk.
“We will have free wi-fi, so kids can come here after school to have a snack and do their homework,” added Terri.
Flour House Bakery’s hours will be from 6 a.m to 4 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. The business will be closed on Tuesdays.
