Newman moves on, Rockridge bows out

Three Rivers Conference North Division champion Sterling Newman continued its playoff push with a 35-12 win over top-seeded Eastland-Pearl City.

Jake Snow led Newman with 199 rushing yards and two touchdowns.

The news was not as good for Three Rivers South Division champ Rockridge, who fell 26-20 in double overtime to the Lincoln Trail Conference’s Aledo Mercer County in front of a crowd of 2,500 filling the hillsides in Aledo.

Mercer County scored on Spencer Wood’s one-yard touchdown in the second overtime and made a defensive stop to stun the top-ranked Rockets.

It was the first loss of the season for Rockridge, a No. 1 seed in 2A.
