Schmidts celebrate 60th wedding anniversary
Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Schmidt of 914 Innsbruck Lane, Princeton, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Oct. 26 with an evening buffet dinner served as the Ye Olde Underground Inn.
Douglas Schmidt and Shirley Becker were united in marriage on Nov. 29, 1953, at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, located then on North Main Street. Erwin L. Beaver officiated the service. Their attendants were Betty (Husser) Croisant, Sally (Blackwell) King, Ruth Ann (Becker) Zweep, Ronald Becker, brother of the bride, Jim Becker (deceased), cousin of the bride, and Eugene Schmidt, cousin of the bride. Marsha Bolin was the flower girl and Bruce Becker, brother of the bride, was the ring bearer.
Doug and Shirley have two daughters, Debra Harrison of Princeton and Jodi Ebens of Stone Lake, Wis. They are also the grandparents of five granddaughters, Torri Price of Kewanee, Megan Mounsey of Ankeny, Iowa, Paige Harrison of Princeton, Cortney Mounsey of Weyerhaeuser, Wis., and Olivia Harrison of Princeton, and two great-grandsons, Austin Patterson and Gavyn Elliott of Weyerhaeuser, Wis.
Doug was the owner of Smitty’s Gas Station and Schmidt Auction Service. He was a member of the Princeton Volunteer Fire Department and served as fire chief for two years. Shirley was employed by the Bureau County Courthouse. After retirement, she worked part time for Hudson Cleaning Service.
