SHEFFIELD — Network Business Systems Inc. (NBS) now offers high speed Internet in Sheffield. NBS is broadcasting wireless Internet from the Sheffield water tower for both residential and commercial users.
NBS is locally owned, has been in business as technology consultants since 1991, and provides services for both home and small office to large business. NBS hosts more than 200 active websites for all types of business and has designed most of them. The wireless Internet service was started in 2000 and now spans more than 18 counties and is located on more than 80 commercial towers, water towers and grain legs.
“We provide Internet to many city and county government offices, fire departments, water facilities, large and small business, schools and homes,” said Kari Hofmann, general manager of NBS, located in Geneseo.
Most towers are double hit to provide redundancy and high up time. Also, all towers are either generated or on long cycle batteries to prevent most outages due to power loss, she added.
When NBS does the install, they own the radio, so if a customer’s connection breaks, they roll the repair truck at their expense and fix the radio for free (unless the radio is damaged by vandalism or an act of God such as a lightning strike). Currently, NBS is offering a free basic install.
“We do not monitor the radio that is at your home, so you need to call the office when you are down,” added Hofmann. “We do however, monitor all towers 24x7x365, so we are always aware if any of our network structure is down or having a problem.”
The company’s website address is www.nbson.com. Its office is located at 23834 E. 1260 St., Geneseo, or call 309-944-8823.
