LADD — Ronald “Zum” Swingel, 83, of 209 N. Western St., Ladd, died at 9:11 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13, 2013, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

Ron was born on Nov. 5, 1930, in Spring Valley to John and Ida Louise (Podobinski) Swingel. He married Barbara M. Ziel July 14, 1956, at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in Ladd.

Ron served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1950 to 1953 during the Korean War. He worked at Westclox and as an ironworker with LaSalle Local 386 for 35 years. He was a member of the Ladd American Legion, Ironworker's Local 444 in Joliet, St. Benedict’s Catholic Church and its Holy Name Society, the Ladd Moose and the Spring Creek Golf Course.

Ron loved playing cards and visiting the area casinos. When he retired, he enjoyed golfing with his friends. Ron was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Nothing meant more to him than his family, and he was there for them always. He was the kind of person ready to lend a helping hand when anyone needed anything done. He will be greatly missed.
