PRINCETON — Edith Wahlstrom, 95, of Princeton passed away Friday, Dec. 27, 2013, at Colonial Rehab and Nursing Center in Princeton.
She was born Sept. 22, 1918, in Princeton to Barney and Myrtle (Staples) Underwood. She graduated from Tiskilwa High School in 1937. She married H. Gordon Wahlstrom on Feb. 22, 1953, at her parents' home. He died Jan. 15, 1990. She and her husband owned Westside Grocery Store for several years. She also worked in retail at various shops in Princeton before becoming a ward clerk at Perry Memorial Hospital for 15 years.
Edee was an avid horsewoman and rode horses until she was 90. She was a member of several local saddle clubs. She was also a member of the Princeton and Tiskilwa historical societies and the Bureau County Genealogical Society. Edee was also was a charter member of Friends of the Canal and the Bureau County Fair.
Edee is survived by her sister, Melvina (the late Frank) Lewis of Princeton. Also surviving are five nieces and nephews, Barb (Howard) Wolcott of Rock Falls, Roy (Jane) Yarrington of Princeton, Carol (Tom) Grundman of Princeton, David (Diane) Lewis of Wyanet and Donnie (Carin) Lewis of Princeton; and numerous great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a sister, Doris Yarrington.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Norberg Memorial Home, Princeton, with the Rev. Jon Olinger officiating. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery, Princeton.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
