Red Devils win opener at Marseilles

The Hall Red Devils carried their momentum from the Colmone Classic to the first game of the Marseilles Holiday Tournament, defeating Serena 54-44 on Thursday’s opening night.

A.J. Gaeta led the Red Devils with 16 points. Fifth-seeded Hall, the No. 5 seed, beat No. 4 Chicago St. Benedict 67-51 to advance to Saturday’s semifinals vs. Putnam County.

Top-seeded Putnam County was a 66-51 winner over Leland-Earlville Thursday. They beat Marquette 66-57 Friday evening.

LaMoille/Ohio went down in defeat to No. 2 seed Dwight 57-27 on Thursday. The Lions also lost to Midland 63-40 on Friday.

At Plano: Mendota fell to Seneca 69-51 in Thursday’s action in the Plano Christmas Classic. James Carroll had 18 point and Ryan Reeder and Joe LaShonse 13 each for the Trojans (9-4).

At Princeville: Jose Lopez had 19 points, but DePue went down in defeat 60-44 to Galva on Thursday.

Top-seeded Henry opened with a 44-29 win over North Fulton. Jake Schlosser and Nathan Helle each had 11 points.

Saturday’s finals will begin at 11 a.m. at the Academy.
