Thomas Gustafson

PRINCETON — Thomas J. Gustafson, 65, of Princeton passed away on Thursday, Dec. 26, 2013, at St. Margaret's Hospital in Spring Valley.

He was born on Sept. 25, 1948, in Princeton to Willie and Mona (Gilbert) Gustafson. He graduated from Princeton High School in 1966. He graduated from Barber College in Moline. Tom served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. After his military service, he was a barber in Princeton for many years. Tom was previously married to Candace Jacobson.

He was on the Bureau County Agricultural Board, holding several positions over the years and he was very active in the Bureau County Fair. Tom also announced the races at Bureau County Speedway for several years. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Princeton.

Tom is survived by two sons, Tipton (Victoria) Gustafson of Fair Lawn, N.J., and Justin Gustafson of Peru; two grandchildren, Margo and Kai of Fair Lawn, N.J.; two sisters, Meri (Gary) Giese of Princeton and Ann (Greg) Crofton of Neponset; a nephew, Joshua Crofton and three nieces, Jessica, Victoria, and Emma Crofton.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

Memorial service will be at noon Monday at the Norberg Memorial Home, the Rev. George Woosnam officiating. Burial will be private and at a later date.

The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to noon Monday at the Norberg Memorial Home.
