Saturday Sports Update
At St. Bede: Mendota repeated as champions at the Lady Bruins Christmas Classic, defeating Fieldcrest 61-41 Saturday evening at the Academy.
Fieldcrest busted Mendota's fullcourt press with ease with layups to take a 20-17 lead. The Lady Trojans moved back to halfcourt, settled down and settlied in on for a 12-0 run to close out the first half with a lead.
St. Bede dropped the third-place game, falling to Eureka 43-25.
In other games, Princeton defeated Henry 34-28, Kewanee topped LaMoille/Ohio 54-43 and Seneca beat IVC 43-34.
At Prophetstown: The host Lady Prophets beat LaSalle-Peru 68-37 for the championship of the Lady Prophets Tournament Saturday night.
At Princeville: Putnam County captured the championship at Princeville, defeating the Roanoke-Benson 69-33. Daniela Pavlovich scored 18 points and sisters Vanessa and Allison Voss added 11 each.
At Erie: Bureau Valley dropped its first game in the Warkins Memorial Cardinal Classic, falling to Monmouth-Roseville 45-26 on Saturday. Helena Arnadotir led BV (7-7) with seven points. Val Reuter and Darcy Kepner added five each.
The Storm finished in a three-way tie in pool A play with a 3-1 record with M-R and Rockridge. Knoxxville is 4-0 in pool B. Finals will played Monday.
At Marseilles: LaMoille/Ohio posted its first win of the the tournament Saturday, defeating Lexington 44-37. Brandon Morris had 16 points for the Lions.
Putnam County beat neighbor Hall 76-48 in Saturday's semifinals. The Red Devils will face Dwight at 6:30 p.m. Monday for third place. The Panthers advance to Monday's finals seeking to repeat as tournament champions.
At Princeville: Brimfield (11-0) held off Henry (now 12-1) 72-69 in a battle of unbeatens in Saturday's championship game.
At Plano: Mendota fell to Kaneland 65-64.
At Romeoville: L-P beat Joliet Catholic 45-44.
