William Robison

SHEFFIELD — William R. “Bill” Robison, 77, of Sheffield died Friday, Dec. 27, 2013, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

Born May 27, 1936, in Peoria, the son of Ralph and Florence (Dixon) Robison, he married Ellen Dinsmore Aug. 23, 1959, in Good Hope. She died April 28, 2008. He later married Barbara Welch Feb. 14, 2010, in Princeton. She survives.

He graduated from Tiskilwa High School and Western Illinois University in Macomb. He served in the U.S. Army in Germany during the Korean War time. He taught school for the Western Community School District, he then worked for Caterpillar in data processing until retiring. He had also farmed all his life in the Buda and Tiskilwa area.

He was a member of the First United Church of Christ in Sheffield, Sheffield Lions Club, where he was serving as president, and H.F. Hortz Post 415 American Legion, Sheffield, where he was a past commander. He had served on the board and as president of the former Western Community School District.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara; one son, Robert (Renea) Robison of Tiskilwa; one daughter, Rebecca Robison of Springfield; one stepson, Wesley (Elizabeth) Welch of Lafayette, Ind.; one stepdaughter, Wendy Welch of Las Vegas, Nev.; three grandchildren, Justin (Ami) Robison, Jared Robison and Jacob Robison; two stepgrandchildren, Nik and Eli Welch; an AFS daughter, Joanne (Dennis Hika) Thompson of New Zealand; one brother, Ralph (Synda) Robison Jr. of Varna; and one sister, Barbara Helton of Lockport.

He was preceded in death by his parents and first wife.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the First United Church of Christ, Sheffield, with the Rev. Jane Courtright officiating. Burial will be in the Sheffield Cemetery with military honors by the Sheffield American Legion.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services in Sheffield.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the William R. Robison Memorial Fund.
