Donations headed to Washington emergency responders

Published: Monday, Jan. 6, 2014 3:09 p.m. CDT

BuEComm Director Diana Stiles is pictured with $1,800 in Visa gift cards she will deliver to Washington, Ill., Fire Chief Michael Vaughn to be distributed to the families of firefighters, emergency medical technicians and police officers who suffered catastrophic losses in the November tornado. Instead of a traditional gift exchange this year, Bureau County Emergency Communications staff members challenged themselves, as well as Emergency Telephone System Board members and other public safety entities in Bureau County, to donate to Washington public safety families affected by the tornado. Stiles said, "Policemen, firefighters and EMTs are usually the first to say, 'Give it to someone else,' and this was a chance for us to give a little something back to those public safety providers who, while taking care of everyone else, sustained severe losses themselves. We wanted to let them know we are thinking of them and wish the best for them." Contributors include Bureau County ETSB members, BuEComm director and 9-1-1 telecommunicators, Princeton Police Department, Bureau-Putnam Ambulance Association, Wyanet Fire Department, Wyanet Rescue, Ohio Fire Department,Tiskilwa Fire Department, DePue Fire Department and Buda Rescue.
