SPRING VALLEY — The Richard A. Mautino Memorial Library’s children’s department is having a variety of activities planned for January to help cure the cabin fever blues.
Thursday, Jan. 16, all ages are welcome for game night. Several board and card games are available at the library to join in with friends and/or family. If patrons have a special game they would like to share, they may bring it along.
Wednesday, Jan. 22, a family reading night with games, reading, prizes and snacks will be hosted for the entire family to participate in from 5 to 6:30 p.m.
Saturday, Jan. 25, the library will host a New Year Movie Day for ages 7 and up. Activities will be available, and popcorn will be served.
The library is also trying to put together book clubs for the following age groups: 4th-6th grade and a YA Book Club. Patrons interested in either book club, please attend a meeting on Jan. 20 from 5 to 6 p.m. for the 4th-6th grade and Jan. 27 from 5 to 5:30 p.m. for the YA. At each meeting, they will be deciding on a book title that will be read for a discussion date in February.
Books are ordered for each child; they do not need to buy their own copy. For those interested, but unable to attend these meetings, contact the library at 815-663-4741 prior to the meeting.
Also at the library, on Tuesdays from 5:30 to 6 p.m., story time will be held for children ages 3 to 8 years old. This involves a story being read by the librarian and a craft that is associated with the story.
BUDA — Saturday, Jan. 18, the Mason Memorial Public Library will be hosting a winter fun day. Children from grades kindergarten through 8 are invited for crafts, a movie, pop and popcorn. The fun happens from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Stop by the library or call at 309-895-7701 by Friday, Jan. 17 to sign up.
Also, new books at the library including “Command Authority” by Tom Clancy, “Innocence” by Dean Koontz, “The Supreme Macaroni Company” by Adriana Trigiani and many more paperbacks for adults. For young adults, the library now has the whole “Divergent” series by Veronica Roth.
New DVDs include “Despicable Me 2,” “Percy Jackson Sea of Monsters,” “Lonesome Dove,” “Perter Pan Returns to Neverland” and “100 Cartoon Classics.” The library has a large DVD collection and has something for everyone to watch. Stop by and get a book, movie or stack of magazines to cuddle up with during this cold wintry weather.
OHIO — Tuesday, Jan. 21, the Ohio Public Library will be hosting a tablet question and answer session at 5:30 p.m. in the library. Individuals are encouraged to bring their tablets to this event. Participants are encouraged to sign up ahead of the program, so that library staff have an idea of what type of tablet everyone is bringing.
